The MeadMakr’s Toolbox

The following tools were designed with the meadmaker in mind. Each should provide value to you, and will help plan and evaluate your batches pre- and post- ferment.

THE MEADMAKR BATCHBUILDR

The BatchBuildr is the ultimate tool for planning and making a traditional mead (also useful for a metheglin base). The tool uses inputs for your ideal mead based on volume, yeast ABV tolerance, and desired sweetness, and predicts the amount of honey you will need, providing a few options for known successful nutrient dosing.

THE TOSNA 2.0 CALCULATOR

Sergio Moutela (Melovino Meadery, Mead Made Right) built an update to the TOSNA calculator, a version 2.0 per se. To determine your appropriate Tailored Organic Staggered Nutrient Addition (TOSNA) for version 2 (not in the BatchBuildr as of 3 Nov 2016), follow the link and toggle away. A big thanks to Sergio for developing the process and letting us share this interactive calculator with you!

SG TO BRIX CONVERTER

Using the conversion equations discussed in Just How Much Honey Is in Your Mead, the SG to Brix Converter provides what we believe to be the most accurate conversions between SG and Brix.

ABV CALCULATOR

The ABV calculator uses the SG to Brix conversion equations combined with the original extract, apparent extract, and real extract equations from Michael Hall’s 1995 Summer Zymurgy article to predict ABV.

BATCHBLENDR

The BatchBlendr is designed to help you mix your meads together. Starting with the specific gravity, ABV, and volume of two meads, the BatchBlendr will provide you with the specific gravity and ABV of the new mead.

ADVANCED NUTRIENT CALCULATOR

Plan to add nutrients to your mead, but you don’t want to add the amounts available in the BatchBuildr? Try out the Advanced Nutrient Calculator. It has a default setting to dose to limits with Fermaid O, Fermaid K, and DAP in that order. But you can turn off enforcement of the limits just the same. Use it for your next batch!
